I first heard about juicing three years ago. It’s something I was then only sort of aware of when I read online magazines and spoke to some of my friends.
The thing is, it sounded a bit too good to be true. It helps you lose weight and it detoxifies your system. Just from swapping to a juice only diet for a few days at a time.
So after it had been churning around in my brain for three years, a combination of feeling a bit down and being a bit overweight made me seriously think about doing it.
My First Time Juice Cleanse Experience
I bit the bullet and ordered pre-made juicing products for delivery. That was good because it committed me financially to starting the process at a set time. There was no point in ordering the stuff if it then went to waste!
I started the first day of my three-day juice cleanse at 7 o’clock. I drank my first bottle of juice and some water. I was bit concerned my body was going to go into some sort of meltdown in minutes, but obviously that was not the case.
During the day I got hungry, but I drank four more bottles of juice and plenty of water.
I had been concerned about the effect of cutting out food completely for three days, so I had planned to have steamed vegetables as a supplement in the evening. I’d still did this even though I didn’t actually feel I needed it, and I also had a green tea.
Day two was more difficult. Although what already learned how to space out the juices, I was very hungry and my body was starting to do some weird things as I detoxified. I think it was at this point I realized my first juice cleanse wasn’t going to be plain sailing.
The tough bit was that I began to think about food. I started to notice food all around me when I was out. Things you don’t usually notice, like Subway and the local mini mart.
But I had come this far and I wasn’t going to give in. Admittedly, I had to go to bed early that night because I was exhausted and desperate to turn my brain off from thinking about returning to my toxic diet.
Day Three Of My First Juice Cleanse And The Results
I woke on day three feeling very rested and much less hungry than I had before. I was into a routine now with my juicing and because I’d already purchased the juice in advance it made that part of it preparation free and easy.
My skin felt better and generally for some reason I felt like I was glowing. This could be all in my head, but I did feel better overall.
The day went much quicker than the previous two and by the evening I had the feeling I had cracked it.
I was so pleased with my juicing experience that I continued for another two days, but supplemented it with an evening meal of good quality meat and vegetables.
On the con side of juice cleansing, you will lack energy and as you detoxify you will feel weird.
On top of that, if you are an exercise fanatic you won’t be able to push yourself in the same way, in fact I would recommend not undertaking anything more strenuous than yoga during a juice cleanse.
I lost several pounds which is great. However, the short-term benefit is you lose water weight mostly, so I wouldn’t recommend it as a weight wonder cure unless you intend to extend the juice cleanse for a longer period of time to start impacting on your real weight.
On the pro side I felt hugely hydrated and full of energy by the end of it. I felt like my body really had been cleansed and I felt more alive and alert.
So overall juicing was a positive experience for me and I plan to do it once per month for three days while really looking in detail at my general lifestyle between times.
