If I told you that you will breeze through your first juice detox, otherwise known as a juice cleanse, then I would not be being straight with you.
If you have already undertaken a juice detox, you will probably be aware that sometimes even an experienced person can struggle.
Sometimes it’s to do with your state of mind, or the lifestyle you have had in the lead up to the juice detox. For example, if you detox straight after the Christmas period, where you ate and drank lots of rich food and drink, then swinging straight into a juice only diet can be incredibly tough mentally.
So let’s look at 10 great things you can do to help you survive your next juice detox.
1. Be mentally ready
As I’ve just said, choose carefully when you will undertake your juice cleanse. And if you are undergoing emotional stress, then you may feel now is not the right time to do it.
2. Be 100% committed
If you are going to cheat then there’s actually no point in undertaking a juice detox. Getting up in the morning and deciding you going to have coffee as well as juice nullifies the point of doing it.
3. Choose the right time
If it’s your partner’s birthday and you have chosen to do a juice detox at the same time you’re meant to be going out for a meal with them, then that’s not great planning. Make sure that you can clear your schedule of distractions as much possible.
4. Keep yourself busy
The more time you spend twiddling your thumbs, the more time you will have to think about food and be open to temptation.
5. Limit your access the Internet
Unless you are working, try not to surf around the Internet to fill your time. You may find you quickly gravitate towards sites that talk about food and drink.
6. Limit your access to TV
The same applies to the television, there are adverts for food everywhere and cookery programmes on most channels.
7. Think about your future eating habits
Whilst you are not eating, it’s a good time to think about the habits you might have when you do it. If they are unhealthy habits it can lead to overeating. So for example, if you are watching your favourite TV show what you eat your dinner, then that is a red light you need to be aware of.
8. Get lots of sleep
When you are tired your body craves food and liquids more. These desires can also be more about fatty foods.
9. Make sure you are supported
Talk to your family and friends make sure that they are aware of the fact you are undertaking a juice detox. There is no point in doing it, if everywhere you go people you love are offering you food and drink.
10. Don’t give up
If you are doing it for three days, make sure you stick at it. You will feel terrible if you quit early, and you won’t benefit from the fantastic boost mentally and physically that you will get from going through a complete juice detox.
