Over the years there have been hundreds of fad diets which have swept the country, been acclaimed by the public and denounced by medical professionals. Take the Atkins Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet and the South Beach Diet for example, all of which have now slipped below the radar and into obscurity. The diet attracting all of the attention at the moment is the Juice Cleanse Diet.
Juicing is simply the process of extracting all of the juice from whole fruits and vegetables. The diet is often chosen by people who want to lose weight quickly or want to detox their bodies and get rid of harmful toxins which may have built up over the years. It sounds healthy enough, but can an individual really survive on juice alone?
The human body already operates a pretty successful detoxification system. Our livers, kidneys, lungs, colon, skin and lymph glands are working hard everyday to keep our bodies as clean and healthy as possible. However this natural process is constantly under attack by toxins in the air, pollutants and other foreign substances which are a part of modern life. On the whole a juice cleanse diet typically lasts for between one and five days, however it is important that individuals select the right kind of juice diet for their bodies.
There are several different juice cleans diets currently being promoted, each of which comes with its own list of pros and cons. Whilst the pros are all pretty similar in terms of increased nutrient intake, lowered cholesterol levels and even enhanced spirituality as a result of following the cleaning process, there are also a few negatives which are often brushed over by those advocating the diets. There are even those who claim that the right juice diet can eliminate chronic illness, improve all over well being and even kill cancer and enhance your sex life. While many of these claims have no scientific evidence to back them up, like so many diets of the past the Juice cleanse diet has an army of followers who believe that juicing and juice detox is just what they need to get their minds, bodies and lives back on track.
